Match Report:
In Catholic Institute, Connacht U16s drew with Munster to get a point on the board. Munster won the penalty shootout to take the extra bonus point. In Banbridge, Ulster had a comfortable win over Leinster South with 5 goals. U18 Women: Back in Catholic Institute, Munster U18s beat Connacht by the same margin. While the Ulster V Leinster South U18 game was a tighter affair – Ulster held on for the win 4-2. These results mean the finals on 12th November will be contested by both Leinster and Ulster in both age groups. Before then though Munster and Leinster South will compete for 3rd place with matches in Loreto Kilkenny next weekend. While Leinster and Ulster will have an opportunity to size each other up in Dundalk in their final league games.
U16 Men
Ulster 4-2 Munster – Sport Ireland Campus
Match Report:
Ulster took the bonus point from the last fixture between these teams and were determined to stay in touching distance of Leinster when they played Munster today in the sport Ireland Campus. It was a close game with plenty of goals although Q1 ended 0-0. In Q2 Ulster took the lead with a field goal from Harry Thompson before Hayden Jones evened it up for Munster to close out the quarter. Three goals from corners and one from open play made for a lively 3rd quarter. Ulster’s Ethan Redford scored twice to create a 2-goal cushion before Jamie Horgan pulled one back for Munster. Ulster’s constant pressure paid off with a PC goal from Harry Thompson left Ulster with a 2-goal lead which they carried through Q4 to finish the game and pick up a valuable 3 points. Current standings: Leinster 6, Ulster 4 and Munster 1.
U18 Men
Ulster 6-3 Munster – Sport Ireland Campus
Match report:
In a high tempo game at the Sport Ireland Campus Ulster came away with all 3 points against a strong Munster squad. The pace was set early in the first quarter when Ulster took the lead through a George Palmer goal. Munster were quick to respond and Peio Garate put away a penalty stroke to even things up before William McInerney gave them the lead. Shortly after George Palmer got his 2nd as Ulster also scored with a penalty stroke. In Q2 Adam McKee for Ulster scored through play as Ulster had the upper hand for most of the quarter. There was no love lost between the teams as they battled through the 3rd quarter, and it was end-to-end with Munster committing high numbers forward while chasing the equaliser. The pressure eventually paid off with a goal scored by Louis McDaid. As time moved on it looked likely the game would finish with a draw and require a penalty shoot-out. With 5 to go and a player down Ulster’s Matthew McAreavey got the lead back. Then Ulster stunned Munster with 2 more goals to finish the game off – both Mc Areavey and McKee getting 2nd goals.
