John Smyth

John having played in an Ulster schools rugby cup winning team moved to rugby to touch the ball more often but he admits to playing a basic form of club hockey.  His main involvement was through schools and he served as Chair of the Ulster Schools 1968/69. John later served as Chair of the Irish Schools from 1989 to 1995. He was involved with starting the Primary Schools Mini Tournament in 1976. John was the last President of the Irish Hockey Union and was President of the newly formed Irish Hockey Association in 2002.
